Over the course of the week, while pimping Noah, Emma Watson dressed for everything from daytime events to formal premieres and she knocked every look out of the park. It was a crazy run from someone who already has a high bar for fashion—she basically completed a sartorial Iron Man. Let’s break it down.
It started on Monday at the Noah press conference. Watson showed up in a color-blocked Peter Pilotto dress that was cool and professional at the same time. The asymmetric details and blousy top are breezy and young, but overall she looks polished and ready for a day in front of cameras. The bold lip—a new trend with Watson—matching the detail on the skirt was a nice stroke. Matchy makeup looks better when it’s done to match an accent color for a little extra oomph.
Also on Monday Watson went on Ellen, trading the dress for high-waisted pants and a pink top. At first glance, I thought it was Chanel because the top echoes the silhouette of those illusion dresses Chanel is making right now, but the outfit is Osman. I love this look. It’s very Audrey Hepburn, with the cropped skinny pants and sleek hair. She looks so effortless I hate myself for even thinking of trying. The minute you’re thinking you’re not pulling off a look this simple and chic.
And then came Tuesday, and this FANTASTIC Yves St. Laurent ladytux. I love when women wear menswear, and this is one of the best examples in recent memory. She’s wearing this suit better than most men wear suits! The fit is flawless. I can’t get over how sexy the skinny tuxedo pant is. The bright red lip is the only accessory she needs. This is the look of the week. I could stare at it for hours. LOOK AT IT. It is exquisite.
But was Emma done? No, she was not. On Wednesday, she attended the New York premiere of Noah in an Oscar de la Renta ball gown. At first glance, I thought it a nice enough look, but perhaps a little matronly. Then she turned around, revealing a plunging back and a dramatic train and my entire opinion changed. Again we’re invoking Audrey without directly copping one of Audrey’s iconic looks. The dress is still a little much for a premiere that was not black tie, but DAMN, that is just so much dress and she is wearing the shit out of it. Her makeup and accessories are stellar, too. The bold coral lip is great—at this rate, Watson is going to single-handedly make bold lips A Thing this summer—but I covet the gold cuff the most.
To close out the week Watson changed into a gauzy floral dress from Erdem for the Noah after party. After playing with modern twists on classic looks all week, she went for a highly editorial look for Wednesday night. A lot of people probably won’t like this but I dig it. It’s the kind of thing only a young woman can wear, and Watson gets points for not over-styling such a busy dress. It was just such a surprise, after a pretty preppy week, to see something rather punky to finish it off. Being able to pull of such diametric looks in one night is true steeze. Emma Watson made fashion her bitch this week.
